IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT ABORTION ACCESS IN ARIZONA
On April 9, 2024, the Arizona Supreme Court issued a decision in Planned Parenthood Arizona v. Hazelrigg, ruling that the 1864 territorial-era abortion ban controls over more recent laws in Title 36 permitting abortions up to 15 weeks.
The Attorney General’s Office is evaluating all legal options to prevent this ban from going into effect. As of now, the earliest the 1864 territorial abortion ban may take effect is June 27, 2024. This means Arizonans can still obtain, and providers cannot be prosecuted for, providing abortion care in accordance with Title 36 up until June 27, 2024.
Arizonans take pride in their personal freedom and their privacy. The decision of how and when to grow one’s family is deeply personal and private.
Arizonans deserve to decide what’s right for their families on their own terms, in consultation with their doctors, significant others, and faith communities, as they deem appropriate.
